Meet Melanie

Melanie Cathleen Scott, Relationship Therapist

Hi There, I’m Melanie.

If you’re feeling stuck—in your relationship, your family, or within yourself—you’re not alone. Whether you’re struggling to communicate, dealing with overwhelm, or feeling disconnected and lost, therapy can help you sort through the chaos.

I work with individuals, couples & families who want more than surface-level fixes. My clients come to me when something in their love, family, or personal life has reached a turning point — when they know something has to change, but aren’t sure how to begin. Together, we work to rebuild connection, restore communication & create a fresh start.

I provide a practical approach which prioritizes solutions and provides a step-by-step plan for what’s next. I became a therapist after a successful career as a lawyer because, after going through significant personal challenges myself & receiving incredible help along the way, I wanted to pay it forward. Practicing law taught me how to navigate high-stakes conversations, listen carefully to multiple perspectives & help people find clarity.

Approach

I utilize a solution-focused style that blends customized action steps with a deeper exploration of core issues – when needed – to create step-by-step change. Together, we’ll work on supporting you and the change you desire to see in your life.

Communication style

I am compassionate and embody a no-nonsense, solution and emotionally focused style of therapy. In working with me, we will focus on what matters most to you and do so as efficiently as possible — while mapping out practical next steps.

First session

During your first session, we will devote our time to highlighting your most pressing problems and prioritizing which areas you want to focus on first. We will also get to know each other and connect about your wants and needs for therapy.

Trainings

I have trained in the Gottman Method of couple’s therapy, shadow work, and somatic psychotherapy. I have also received clinical training in working with addiction, dual diagnosis, domestic violence, and family-focused therapy.

A little more about me

I obtained my Masters in Counseling Psychology from Pepperdine University. I also spent 14 years in a prior career counseling clients on a variety of legal matters as a high-level litigation attorney. I also received 100 hours of training in mediation and conflict resolution. I graduated with a Juris Doctorate from Southwestern School of Law in Los Angeles, CA as well as two Bachelors of Arts degrees from the University of Southern California.
